Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi · written by Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam · 2017
Scene 24 of 130 · ≈ 3 min on screen
Reunited three years after a car crash scattered them into hollow versions of success, four friends stumble into a bachelor-party trip to Goa where making one last short film forces them to confront the heartbreak, cowardice, and unfinished business each of them has been outrunning.
The four friends bicker in a car about whether to make crime thrillers or comedies for views — the fight over what kind of story to tell, which the rest of the film answers.
Karthik's boss tells him "every dog has its day" and later calls him a "great dane" — the film's real theme, that Karthik is chasing someone else's idea of a good dog, is stated here and not understood until the very end.
Kaushik arrives as the couple storms out on Upendra mid-argument.
Vivek's uncle, a cop, grills him about a bounced traffic fine and his ex-girlfriend before Vivek storms off drunk-driving to his soulless tech job.
Vivek drives recklessly toward his office building.
This scene
He puts on his Card around his neck and gets into the parking area.
He sees his spot and parks the car.
The radio plays a fast upbeat song.
VIVEK reaches out for something in the back seat.
He grabs a MC Donalds Takeaway cover, he hits the hand brake.
He reclines his seat and takes out his burger & drink
He carefully opens his soft drink and drinks up nearly half of it.
He then pulls out a ‘hip flask’ filled with whiskey, smells it & pours the contents of it into the soft drink glass.
He then places his phone onto a holder and searches for “new Hollywood movie trailers 2017”
Plays something and lounges back while he nurses his drink to take a sip of his customized cocktail.
He does all this in a rehearsed manner as though he’s done this several times.
The video he’s watching is interrupted by a call.
“KARTHIK - DONT LIFT Calling” the screen shows.
He looks at it and continues to ignore it and sips his drink.
The call ends and he continues to watch the video.
The video is interrupted again.
He is irritated by it & leans forward to take the call but decides to ignore it again.
The video continues to play after the call and he linges back again.
The call comes in again. This time its a different number.
VIVEK
Nee amma !
He springs up from the seat. A little bit of the drink splashes on his pant.
He composes himself and answers the call.
