Obsession · written by Curry Barker · 2026
Scene 19 of 61 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act two
Bear wishes the woman he loves would love him back. The wish comes true — and her devotion becomes a violence neither of them can stop.
Bear in his comfort zone of quiet, unspoken longing for Nicky, grieving his cat and coached by Ian to stay silent rather than confess.
Bear needs Nicky to love him back, sharpened by trivia night's proximity to her and Ian, and the purchase of the willow as an almost-joke wish object.
Bear breaks the willow and makes the wish, crossing from wanting to actively, magically pursuing Nicky's love.
Nicky asks Bear to sleep beside her, undresses, and kisses him, then recoils in terror the instant she opens her eyes and realizes what's happening.
Bear finds Nicky sitting up watching him in the dark and, unsettled, gives in when she begs him to lie beside her.
Bear wakes to find Nicky gone from the bed, her bag still by the door.
This scene
Breakfast is on the table and an odd smell lingers, but the house seems vacant. He walks to the kitchen, finding his cat's corpse on the ground, surrounded by flower petals. Bear approaches,
NICKY (O.S)
I'm sorry. I found the body in the
trash. I didn't think that was
proper, Bear.
Bear turns to face Nicky.
BEAR
Nicky...?
Nicky approaches Bear dressed in a blue short-sleeved button-up shirt, adorned with a Mandy's Music lanyard, and a name tag that reads "Nicky."
NICKY
Do you want to say a few words and
then I can clean this up?
BEAR
(confused)
Uh... He was a good cat.
Nicky laughs.
NICKY
Amen.
BEAR
Nicky, this is weird.
NICKY
(defensive)
Weird?
Nicky adjusts herself as if she is offended by the remark. She picks up the stiff, dead cat with one hand and tosses it in the garbage, a hint of attitude in her action.
NICKY (CONT'D)
(defensive)
You threw him in the trash Bear.
It's not cool.
Bear studies her.
