Obsession · written by Curry Barker · 2026
Scene 53 of 61 · ≈ 2 min on screen · Act three
Bear wishes the woman he loves would love him back. The wish comes true — and her devotion becomes a violence neither of them can stop.
Bear in his comfort zone of quiet, unspoken longing for Nicky, grieving his cat and coached by Ian to stay silent rather than confess.
Bear needs Nicky to love him back, sharpened by trivia night's proximity to her and Ian, and the purchase of the willow as an almost-joke wish object.
Bear breaks the willow and makes the wish, crossing from wanting to actively, magically pursuing Nicky's love.
Bear adapts to Nicky's escalating strangeness, paying the cost of denial and rationalization as the relationship forms under increasingly disturbing terms.
Nicky confesses her love and the relationship becomes real — Bear gets exactly what he wished for, at the exact moment the cracks (the dad lie) start to show.
The price escalates from self-harm and terror to Sarah's murder, the heaviest cost of the wish coming due.
Alone at sunrise, Bear reads Sarah's acceptance letter to art school and resolves, wrecked with guilt, to fix what he's done.
Bear speeds toward the crystal shop, screaming behind the wheel.
Bear storms out of his car into the crystal shop.
This scene
Bear heads straight for the One Wish Willow section. It's empty.
BEAR
No. No. No.
Bear storms over to the clerk, noticing it's a different worker.
BEAR (CONT'D)
Where are they?! The One Wish Willow's!
HARRY
Sir?
BEAR
Please! Please, tell me you have them! Where are they? THE ONE WISH WILLOWS?
Harry, 34, oddball, points behind the counter.
HARRY
We moved them. They're right here! Sir, don't come in here with this. It's too early.
BEAR
Oh.
Three One Wish Willows left.
HARRY
Yeah, Yeah. You made a shitty wish, and you want to reverse it. You don't have to storm in here with this energy.
BEAR
(frantic)
What the fuck! What the fuck is wrong with you?!
HARRY
Me?
BEAR
How can you sell this to people?
HARRY
The box is full of warnings, man.
BEAR
Fuck YOU!
HARRY
(scolding)
Hey, fuck you man!
Bear catches his reflection in an aged, dirty mirror behind the front desk. Bloodied, dirt-streaked, his eyes blaze with madness.
BEAR
Nobody would- how... I'm sorry...
Bear, overwhelmed by emotion, collapsing to the ground.
BEAR (CONT'D)
(balling)
I'm sorry. I'm so so so so sorry.
HARRY
Oh god... What did you do?
Bear can't speak.
HARRY (CONT'D)
(checking the store to make sure they're alone)
Oh, god.
BEAR
She's obsessed with me.
HARRY
(comforting)
Oh. Well, that's not so bad.
BEAR
(breathing hard)
Help me reverse it.
HARRY
Noooo.
BEAR
I'm gonna make another wish.
HARRY
(comforting)
You know you can't do that.
You knew that going in, man.
You knew you couldn't-
BEAR (CONT'D)
No no no Please.
I didn't know-
HARRY (CONT'D)
You knew. Even if you didn't know, you knew.
BEAR
No, this isn't right.
HARRY
Sounds to me like you have a moral obligation to be there for her.
BEAR
But she doesn't really want me. It's not real. It's not right.
HARRY
Right...
A beat.
HARRY (CONT'D)
But she does. And she would be miserable without you.
BEAR
Right...
Bear glances from Harry to the One Wish Willow display, an idea sparking.
