Scene 46 of 110 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act one
In 1932 Mississippi, gifted sharecropper-bluesman Sammie Moore wants to make a life in the blues beyond his preacher father's rules, but the opening night of his cousins' juke joint becomes a siege by a vampire offering the community belonging at the price of its freedom.
The legend and prologue frame Sammie's segregated Delta life under his father's church and the twins' shadow.
Sammie wants the freedom, recognition, and musical life he imagines beyond the plantation.
The Chows arrive, and Grace works out where the new sign should go.
Annie and the women cook while the workers close the walls and finish the juke's food.
As night falls, the twins organize the door, electricity, and entrance for the opening.
This scene
The lights turn on, revealing the mill has been whipped into shape, food is cooking the musicians are doing the walk through.
The whiskey and beer is made to be ready to be sold behind the bar.
On what is now the dance floor Smoke stands stoic, looking around, doing math in his head. Stack walks up to him, beaming. Slaps him on his back.
