The Odyssey · written by Christopher Nolan · 2026
Scene 10 of 199 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act one
Twenty years after leaving for the Trojan War, Odysseus fights his way home across a hostile sea only to find his kingdom overrun — and must return in disguise to reclaim his wife, his son, and his throne from the suitors laying siege to his house.
Ithaca frozen in a decade of waiting: Penelope weaving, the suitors feasting, Telemachus unheard.
The bard vows the trick will "burn it screaming to the ground" as he brings down his staff.
Trojans capture the lone soldier Sinon guarding the Horse and torture him for its meaning; he claims it as an offering to Athena and they spare him, hauling the Horse toward the city.
In the Ithaca hall, Penelope refuses the suitors' song of Odysseus; Telemachus defends a mistreated beggar-traveler, who urges him to seek news of his father from Menelaus.
This scene
Bronze CLASHES brightly as Telemachus trains with an older man, MENTOR (forties). Eumaeus SUPERVISES, elderly Argus LIMP AT HIS FEET.
EUMAEUS
Too fast.
Telemachus turns, BREATHLESS. Mentor LOWERS HIS SWORD.
TELEMACHUS
How can you know?
EUMAEUS
You don't need eyes to hear a hasty combination. Mentor, push him.
Mentor LASHES OUT -- Telemachus MEETS EACH BLOW --
EUMAEUS (CONT'D)
Too fast.
Telemachus stops, FRUSTRATED, SLUMPS down next to Eumaeus. He REACHES out to pet Argus who GROWLS...
TELEMACHUS
He's as friendly as you.
EUMAEUS
He only answered to your father.
Telemachus gently rubs the dog’s thinning fur.
TELEMACHUS
Where did he get him from?
EUMAEUS
They met right here...
