The Odyssey · written by Christopher Nolan · 2026
Scene 27 of 199 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act one
Twenty years after leaving for the Trojan War, Odysseus fights his way home across a hostile sea only to find his kingdom overrun — and must return in disguise to reclaim his wife, his son, and his throne from the suitors laying siege to his house.
Ithaca frozen in a decade of waiting: Penelope weaving, the suitors feasting, Telemachus unheard.
Flashback: Odysseus effortlessly strings the bow and shoots an arrow through a line of axes to a cheering hall.
Present: Penelope reveals no other man has ever managed the bow's feat, and Telemachus insists on sailing to learn if his father is truly dead.
In the hall, Eumaeus is publicly humiliated and threatened by the suitors' servant Melanthius over his loyalty to Odysseus's memory.
This scene
Telemachus stalks down the corridor. He grabs the Old Nursemaid.
TELEMACHUS
Prepare supplies, get them down to the ships. Tell no one. Use only the people you trust.
OLD NURSEMAID
You'll break your mother's heart.
TELEMACHUS
If I stay, they'll force me to fight. No one will back me. I have to find out what happened to my father. Ithaca will be behind me if they know Odysseus is dead.
OLD NURSEMAID
The suitors aren't going to let that happen. You'll never make it back alive.
TELEMACHUS
Tell Mentor to meet me at the ships just before dawn.
OLD NURSEMAID
What should I tell your mother?
TELEMACHUS
Nothing, till we're out of sight of land. Then tell her to hold out as long as she can.
