Scene 122 of 189 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act two
Mark Zuckerberg wants status and belonging Harvard's final clubs won't give him, so he builds a website that gives the world both — and loses his best friend and co-founder to the company he built to prove he mattered.
Mark at the campus bar: brilliant, status-obsessed, unable to read the room he's sitting in.
He wants to matter — to be let into the final clubs, to be exceptional enough that Erica's verdict is wrong — and Facemash is the first proof-of-concept.
He takes the Winklevoss pitch as a springboard, builds theFacebook in its place, and launches it into a world he can't control.
Eduardo tells Gretchen that Mark was unusually excited about one particular dinner meeting set up through his girlfriend.
At the restaurant 66, Eduardo and Christy wait nervously for the guest of honor while Mark stays unfazed, defending Sean Parker being late.
Eduardo admits in deposition he was nervous, not jealous, having heard Sean Parker was a wild card.
This scene
CHRISTY
Why?
EDUARDO
He crashed out of two pretty big internet
companies in spectacular fashion and he’s
had a reputation with drugs.
MARK
He also founded the companies.
EDUARDO
We don’t need him.
MARK
(nodding toward the door)
He’s here.
SEAN PARKER has stepped into the restaurant and is saying hello to the hostess while hugging a waitress.
EDUARDO
And he does own a watch.
SEAN stops at a table to shake hands with a guy in a suit and kiss his girlfriend. It’s sort of an incongruous sight--this 22 year old kid who’s able to work a room like Sinatra. Who the hell is this?
EDUARDO (CONT’D)
(quietly)
Take your time. And he does own a watch.
CHRISTY
Stop it.
SEAN makes his way over to MARK’s table--
SEAN
I’m Sean Parker.
EDUARDO
(shaking hands)
How do you do.
SEAN
You must be Eduardo. And Christy. And
Mark, it’s great to meet you.
MARK
(almost beaming)
Great to meet you.
SEAN
You guys don’t have anything in front of
you.
(to a passing WAITRESS)
Tori.
EDUARDO
We were waiting for--
WAITRESS
Hey baby boy.
SEAN
Can you bring out some things. The
lacquered pork with that ginger confit?
Tuna tartar and a lobster claws, that’ll
get us started. Christy, what do you like
CHRISTY
An appletini?
SEAN
Great. Four of those.
