Scene 147 of 189 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act two
Mark Zuckerberg wants status and belonging Harvard's final clubs won't give him, so he builds a website that gives the world both — and loses his best friend and co-founder to the company he built to prove he mattered.
Mark at the campus bar: brilliant, status-obsessed, unable to read the room he's sitting in.
He wants to matter — to be let into the final clubs, to be exceptional enough that Erica's verdict is wrong — and Facemash is the first proof-of-concept.
He takes the Winklevoss pitch as a springboard, builds theFacebook in its place, and launches it into a world he can't control.
Sean Parker enters at the 66 dinner and becomes the relationship — equal parts mentor and corrupter — that carries the story's real theme about loyalty and ambition.
The dinner at 66 with Sean Parker — "a billion dollars, that's cool" — reframes the company's ambition and pulls Mark irreversibly toward Sean's orbit.
Eduardo explains he'd brought the chicken to dinner because pledge rules required him to keep it with him at all times.
Mark presses that someone needs to answer for the story while Dustin keeps counting members.
Eduardo explains the chicken-feeding incident that spiraled into a forced-cannibalism accusation, drawing a stifled laugh from Marylin at the deposition table.

DUSTIN
Nine-hundred and eighty-eight.
EDUARDO
Someone from the Porc or the Fly must
have reported it. For all I know it was
the Winklevosses.
MARK
Alright, let’s just forget about it.
EDUARDO
This is absurd. I’m being accused of
animal cruelty. It’s better to be accused
of necrophilia.
MARK
It is better to be accused of necro--
EDUARDO
I’m going to have to explain this to my
father, I’m going to have to explain this
to everybody, I’m going to have to--what
is happening on that?
EDUARDO’s referring to a laptop that’s open and displaying images of four paintings.
MARK
I have my final coming up for “Postwar
and Contemporary Art” and I haven’t been
to class. I’m supposed to write about
those four paintings.
EDUARDO
That’s a Facebook page.
MARK
Yeah, I opened it under an alias. I
posted the paintings and asked people to
comment. Every once in a while I hop on
and stir the pot to get a good debate
going.
