Scene 84 of 189 · ≈ 1 min on screen
Mark Zuckerberg wants status and belonging Harvard's final clubs won't give him, so he builds a website that gives the world both — and loses his best friend and co-founder to the company he built to prove he mattered.
Mark at the campus bar: brilliant, status-obsessed, unable to read the room he's sitting in.
He wants to matter — to be let into the final clubs, to be exceptional enough that Erica's verdict is wrong — and Facemash is the first proof-of-concept.
Cameron, Tyler, and Divya recruit Mark to build HarvardConnection — the idea that becomes Facebook arrives from outside him.
Divya reads aloud another postponement e-mail and the twins wonder if Mark is flaking on them.
Gage reads a further cancellation e-mail from Mark citing lab time.
Divya reads off his Blackberry another Mark e-mail bailing on a meeting for family plans.

Three Lies. What are the three lies, Mr.
Dowd?

EDUARDO
I know.
SENIOR
Mr. Saverin.
EDUARDO
1) Harvard was founded in 1636, not 1638.
2) Harvard wasn’t founded by John Harvard
and 3) That’s not John Harvard.
SENIOR
Who is it?
EDUARDO
A friend of the sculptor, Daniel Chester.
