Scene 15 of 110 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act one
In 1932 Mississippi, gifted sharecropper-bluesman Sammie Moore wants to make a life in the blues beyond his preacher father's rules, but the opening night of his cousins' juke joint becomes a siege by a vampire offering the community belonging at the price of its freedom.
A match illuminates woodcuts of musicians summoning the dead, then a red-eyed figure appears at the window.
Sammie confronts Ruthie about the missing guitar and learns it was taken to church.
Sammie approaches the praise house angry, then steadies himself before going inside.
Jedidiah makes Sammie rehearse church music and a sermon, warning that the blues will bring the devil home.

Samuel...
Sammie doesn’t turn around. He jumps into the car as Smoke’s eyes meet Jedidiah’s for a beat. Smoke turns away. Stack doesn’t.

Don’t worry Uncle Jed. We’ll bring
him back in one piece.
Jedidiah watches as the trio heads off in the distance, stoic hurt on his face.
