Spotlight · written by Josh Singer & Tom McCarthy · 2015
Scene 10 of 143 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act one
The Boston Globe's Spotlight team pries open the Catholic Church's decades-long cover-up of child abuse — one sealed record, one silenced victim at a time.
1976: a police station quietly disappears a molestation case against Father Geoghan, a Bishop, and a hushed young cop watching it happen.
Robby meets incoming editor Marty Baron for the first time over lunch and briefs him on how Spotlight works, sensing Marty is quietly sizing up the team.
Ben tells Robby that Baron was unreadable in their own sit-down, as the two head into Marty's first editorial meeting.
Marty sits mostly silent through his first 10:30 editors' meeting while Helen Donovan runs introductions around the table.
This scene
Mike, cuppa coffee, walks over to STEVE KURKJIAN’s desk. 60s.
MIKE
Hey Steve. Crappy game last night.
KURKJIAN
They can’t hit worth a nickle.
Mike looks toward the conference room of editors.
MIKE
What’s Eileen McNamara doing in the
10:30?
KURKJIAN
Do you need something, Mike?
MIKE
No. Just curious.
KURKJIAN
I got work to do. Go be curious
somewhere else, will you?
