INT. STOCKADE - LOG HOUSE - NIGHT

Torchlight through the gaps in the logs. Five men crowd the doorway. GEORGE MERRY (30s) stands at their head, one fist closed.

JIM HAWKINS (14) sits against the wall. Nobody has bothered to tie his hands.

LONG JOHN SILVER (50s) leans on his crutch by the fire, filling his pipe.

SILVER

Step up, George. I don’t eat men.

Merry crosses the floor, presses something into Silver’s palm, and backs to the door.

Silver opens his hand. A round of paper, black with soot.

He turns it over. One word in charcoal: Deposed. On the ragged edge, a line of small print.

SILVER

Cut out of a Bible. Which of you fools cut a Bible?

Scene plan Before a word is written, the scene’s purpose is agreed. By you.

Scene plan

The Black Spot

Enters
The crew has lost the ship and the fight. They blame Silver, and Jim is his prisoner.
Moves
They hand him the spot. He mocks the paper before he answers what it says.
Pressure peaks
Silver has to keep his crew or lose his neck, with Jim watching which way he turns.
Leaves
He holds the room tonight. Every man in it knows he can be deposed.

Characters What the story knows about them, and what is still only a possibility.

Long John Silver

Characters

Wants
To come home rich, whichever side wins.
Fears
A crew that no longer needs him.
Contradiction
Plays father to Jim. Would trade him in the same breath.

He keeps Jim alive because he likes him.

A possibility

“What if Silver actually likes the boy? Not as a hostage. Jim is the only one who ever looked up to him, and he can’t give that up. That’s his soft spot.”

Step inside the Studio

Watch a story take shape in the desktop Studio. A look at the work in progress, while we prepare for release.

Nothing is rewritten without you.

Ideas arrive as possibilities, from you or from your collaborators. When you choose one, the Studio shows everything it touches, and why. Your pages change only when you say so.

Silver is handed the Black Spot.

What does he do?

What it touches

Choose one. Until you do, all three stay possibilities, and nothing else in the story moves.

Every screenplay begins with a title page.

Put your name on yours. The voyage ends in Bristol. Your story doesn’t.

Made in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

The Studio, where you’ll write it, is coming soon.
