Obsession · written by Curry Barker · 2026
Scene 32 of 61 · ≈ 2 min on screen · Act two
Bear wishes the woman he loves would love him back. The wish comes true — and her devotion becomes a violence neither of them can stop.
Bear in his comfort zone of quiet, unspoken longing for Nicky, grieving his cat and coached by Ian to stay silent rather than confess.
Bear needs Nicky to love him back, sharpened by trivia night's proximity to her and Ian, and the purchase of the willow as an almost-joke wish object.
Bear breaks the willow and makes the wish, crossing from wanting to actively, magically pursuing Nicky's love.
Bear adapts to Nicky's escalating strangeness, paying the cost of denial and rationalization as the relationship forms under increasingly disturbing terms.
Nicky confesses her love and the relationship becomes real — Bear gets exactly what he wished for, at the exact moment the cracks (the dad lie) start to show.
Montage: Nicky and Bear look through yearbook photos on her bed, reminiscing about when they met.
Over dinner, Nicky flirts and asks about Bear's real dreams, but when he presses her about her father's cancer she panics and unravels, insisting it doesn't matter to him.
Back at Bear's, sex turns to horror when Nicky snaps into panic mid-moan and screams, then just as fast resumes as if nothing happened.
This scene
Bear wakes up and checks the clock: 3:32 AM. He turns to find Nicky missing from the bed. Sitting up, he scans the room. In a very dark corner, a figure is barely visible – so faint, it might be nothing.
Bear leans forward, squinting intently. Suddenly, the figure steps forward. It's clear SOMEONE is there.
BEAR
(finding the words)
Nicky?
NICKY
(whisper)
Go back to sleep, Bear.
She is naked except for a long trench coat.
BEAR
What're you doing?
NICKY
(strained whisper)
Watching you sleep. You're cute
when you sleep.
Nicky slowly steps back into her dark corner, morphing into a shadow.
BEAR
Wearing my coat, huh?
NICKY
(blunt)
Smells like you.
BEAR
Can you come back to bed?
NICKY
(whisper)
No.
BEAR
Nicky-
NICKY
(whisper)
No.
Bear leans against the headboard and slides onto his back. The presence of her watchful eyes prevents him from going back to sleep, yet his unease prevents him from doing anything about it.
There is a long silence. The tension grows.
NICKY (CONT'D)
(normal volume)
Make a deal with me.
BEAR
What?
Nicky emerges from the shadows, holding a sharp love crystal. Playfully, she teases like a child, carving into Bear's arm with the crystal.
BEAR (CONT'D)
Nicky. OW!
Bear pulls his arm back. Nicky's eyes ROLL BACK, and she laughs loudly but quickly.
NICKY
(childish)
Love crystal.
Suddenly, she frowns, stands, and walks to the other side of the bed. Nicky halts, her hand extended as if caught mid-run. Her arm remains still, her hand waves slowly at Bear.
After a pause, she quickly drops back onto the bed, kisses Bear on the cheek, and closes her eyes. Terrified, Bear waits briefly before cautiously standing.
NICKY (CONT'D)
(without moving)
STAAAAAAAAYYYYY!
He quickly lies back, staring at the ceiling, heart racing.
