Obsession · written by Curry Barker · 2026
Scene 33 of 61 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act two
Bear wishes the woman he loves would love him back. The wish comes true — and her devotion becomes a violence neither of them can stop.
Bear in his comfort zone of quiet, unspoken longing for Nicky, grieving his cat and coached by Ian to stay silent rather than confess.
Bear needs Nicky to love him back, sharpened by trivia night's proximity to her and Ian, and the purchase of the willow as an almost-joke wish object.
Bear breaks the willow and makes the wish, crossing from wanting to actively, magically pursuing Nicky's love.
Bear adapts to Nicky's escalating strangeness, paying the cost of denial and rationalization as the relationship forms under increasingly disturbing terms.
Nicky confesses her love and the relationship becomes real — Bear gets exactly what he wished for, at the exact moment the cracks (the dad lie) start to show.
Over dinner, Nicky flirts and asks about Bear's real dreams, but when he presses her about her father's cancer she panics and unravels, insisting it doesn't matter to him.
Back at Bear's, sex turns to horror when Nicky snaps into panic mid-moan and screams, then just as fast resumes as if nothing happened.
Bear wakes to find Nicky standing in the shadows wearing his coat, watching him sleep, then cuts his arm with a crystal in a fit of eerie, childlike play.
This scene
Bear and Nicky stand by the front door. Bear puts his lanyard on and kisses Nicky goodbye.
BEAR
I'll see you after work.
NICKY
Okay... I wish I were scheduled
today.
BEAR
No! Enjoy your day off!
Nicky sticks out her lower lip.
NICKY
I'll try. I'll be right here when
you get home.
BEAR
(uncomfortable)
Okay.
We focus on Nicky as Bear exits. She stays still, an awkward smile frozen on her face. Despite the sound of the door closing, she doesn't move. Nicky begins to pee, the liquid running down her leg, staining the floor yellowish-red.
