Scene 174 of 189 · ≈ 1 min on screen · Act two
Mark Zuckerberg wants status and belonging Harvard's final clubs won't give him, so he builds a website that gives the world both — and loses his best friend and co-founder to the company he built to prove he mattered.
Mark at the campus bar: brilliant, status-obsessed, unable to read the room he's sitting in.
He wants to matter — to be let into the final clubs, to be exceptional enough that Erica's verdict is wrong — and Facemash is the first proof-of-concept.
He takes the Winklevoss pitch as a springboard, builds theFacebook in its place, and launches it into a world he can't control.
Expansion to Yale, Columbia, Stanford; the move to Palo Alto; the costs mount — Eduardo sidelined, the twins circling, the company outgrowing its dorm-room shape.
In deposition, a devastated Eduardo recalls that he trusted the paperwork's lawyers as his own and that his father still won't look at him.
Mark tells Eduardo to come back for the party celebrating Facebook's millionth member, and Eduardo agrees, recalling the algorithm on Mark's dorm window.
Sean coaches Mark on how to snub Case Equity's investment pitch as payback for pushing him out of his last company.

EDUARDO
In late November I got the e-mail from
Mark telling me to come out for the
millionth member party.
GRETCHEN
What else did the e-mail say?
EDUARDO
It said that we had to have a business
meeting. That Mark and Sean had played
some kind of revenge stunt on Case Equity
and that Manningham was so impressed that
he was making an investment offer that
was hard to turn down.
